About the Fund

£1.2 million was raised form the sale of the Harris Orphanage in 1985.  Since that time the Harris Charity has been privileged to receive a number of significant donations and financial support  from individuals, businesses and trusts who have specific interest in supporting the young people of the area.

Donations and support include those received from Lancashire Council for Voluntary Services, BDP Music Society, and Booths.

Ongoing investment

Investments for the fund are managed by a sub-committee and at  September 2018 the invested funds stood at over  £4 million with around £2.5 million paid out in grants and the like in the Harris Charity’s 29 year history.

Consideration of Grant Applications

Meetings of the Trustees are scheduled four times per year and the Trustees are all people familiar with the area and who have a range of interests and experience which they use to ensure that funds are distributed fairly and according to the purpose of the Harris Charity.
