Generously Sponsored by Booths

The Harris Charity has a proud history of supporting musical endeavour by young musicians for example loans to purchase musical instruments.

It is therefore with great pride and pleasure that the Trustees have organised the Young Musician of the Guild for the past two Preston Guild Celebrations in 1992 and 2012.  In 2012 the Harris Charity sought to widen the appeal and scope of opportunities for young people by organising in addition the Young Choirs Festival and Young Singers Final.  The singers and musicians had the opportunity to perform in formal competition situations in a variety of settings from The Preston Minster to the Preston Guild Hall during qualifying round of the competition.  The Juries made up of distinguished professional musicians gave positive feedback to all our young competitors – hopefully ensuring that the competition experience would provide special memories and useful advice for the future!

One of the finalists from the 1992 competition – Tim Jackson – now Principal Horn Player with the Royal Liverpool Philarmonia Orchestra was a member of the Jury in 2012.
